Unity Affiliate Program and Partnerize Platform (Performance Horizon) — Tips and Tricks

You don’t need to be a Publisher on the Unity Asset Store to get the opportunity to be a Partner in the Unity Affiliate Program that is Open to Any Creators.

Participating in the Unity Affiliate Program forces you to understand technical nuances and definitions.

Being a Partner since 2018, I saw several transition periods of the program, discovered Tips and Tricks, and found the best way of using it, including promoting My Own Unity Assets with Text Links or Buttons like below.

11 Things I’ve learned about the Unity Affiliate Program

1. Unity Affiliate Program can also be called the Partner Program. Users are Partners.
2. Unity uses Partnerize platform that based on
   Performance Horizon Group Limited T/A Partnerize legal entity from the UK.
3. On the platform, you can generate Affiliate Links that lead to Unity Asset Store (UAS).
4. Such Links are better for now from technical side than Links you can generate with Link Maker of Asset Store. So, there are 2 types of available partner links.
5. Such Links automatically uses link shortening service called prf.hn which comes from the name of a legal entity, partners call them PRF links.
6. PRF Links provide stats for partners and better operating with cookies’ limitation policy of Google Chrome in comparison with links from Link Maker of Asset Store.
7. You can also use your own shortening service with PRF Links — yes, it’s allowed.
   My Redirect Scheme: makaka.org/o/[short_name] > Short PRF Link > UAS Link.
   Real Example: https://makaka.org/o/all-unity-assets.
8. The final links contain my attribution in the address bar and in the browser memory (cookies). In the Post-Cookies era, it also contains attribution inside Partnerize platform. Unity plans to add stats and “post-cookies era” attribution for the Links from Link Maker since 2024; however, I didn’t observe any changes of that for now.
9. 301 & 302 redirects work the same way if you are using a link shortening service like in my scheme that hides PRF Links – conversions are registered properly.
10. The waiting time in the queue after the application is submitted for registration in the Unity Affiliate Program may be more than 30 days.
11. When posting an Affiliate Link, you need to Add Disclosure like I provided below in the post, based on FTC rules of the USA that apply worldwide to you.

WordPress Plugin to Store Affiliate Links

I use the Easy Affiliate Links plugin for WordPress CMS, on which makaka.org website is built. It covers all the needs of the Unity Affiliate Program and allows you to store all your links in the one place.

You can also fix broken links only once without fixing it everywhere on the web where you posted.

2025 Year for Affiliate Program

Unity Assets deserves better Affiliate Marketing, but the current situation looks the next way.

Traffic and Conversions this year is Lower than in previous years, based on reviews of some partners. I can suppose that 4 factors affected it:

1. Unity Discussions (source) now don’t count conversions as well as other Unity-related websites.
2. Google Chrome fights with cookies or something like that (more and more): you can google it.
3. There are so many partners, so your income tends to be lower.
4. GameDev has massive layoffs, so people are buying less.
