The Best WordPress Hosting
The first step on the Road to Improving My Website and Finding the Best WordPress Hosting is migrating from Shared Hosting to a Managed VPS in 2026. This Provides Greater Isolation from other 3rd-party websites on the same server, as well as improved Speed, Availability, and Bandwidth.
I am not a Web Developer, so I try to keep this tutorial understandable for a broad audience. Going forward, I plan to share some metrics after enabling the Acceleration Features available with My New Hosting Provider called ScalaHosting, so this tutorial will be updated as I continue the experiment.
Best Hosting Provider for WordPress
The last time I switched my Hosting Provider was in 2018. Back then, the main goal was simply to avoid my website freezing while staying on cheap shared hosting. I registered my main domain called makaka.org in 2015, and I’ve been occasionally publishing Documentation for My Products and Developer Tutorials there. However, I have an idea to unlock more of its potential.
Times change, and I need faster loading times. I believe I’ve found a pretty modern and independent company that hasn’t attracted venture capital, which means it doesn’t have the same pressure to optimize costs at the expense of its customers, such as by limiting CPU, PHP threads, Bandwidth, and so on, as many popular web hosting companies do. My website just works after the migration (no issues, finally) — and it’s even faster. Now it’s Hosted on ScalaHosting’s VPS.
This came after thoroughly analyzing the market and facing the reality that “Premium” hosting (specialized in WordPress CMS) with “Premium” support couldn’t help with freezes on my website, even though it had worked normally on my previous hosting.
VPS and Server Location — Step 1
As a Starting Point, I paid for a year of the Entry Cloud plan, a fully managed Cloud VPS (Virtual Private Server) with predefined resources. The CEO recently contacted me and said that this plan is currently their best-seller. You can find it under “Cloud Hosting Services” > “Web Hosting”.
The Support Team told me that the Newest Hardware (such as the modern AMD EPYC 9474F CPUs (2022), with boost frequencies of up to 4.1 GHz) is available in the USA (Dallas and Seattle) and Bulgaria (Sofia), using Scala’s Native Infrastructure. For your information, some popular hosting providers still use much older server CPUs released in 2012.
I initially rented a server in New York there, but it seems that Sofia may be a better location for an International Website when it comes to dynamic, uncached PHP requests, like this Scala’s affiliate link.
It’s pretty expensive, considering that I’ve never paid so much for a VPS before. However, the Server is Fast, and there have been no issues since the migration. Moreover, although it’s been only a week, I’m already observing that the number of times my site is cited by Google AI has doubled.
To measure the results, I compared Time to First Byte (TTFB) via the Flying TTFB service (built by the team behind FlyingPress, a speed optimization plugin for WordPress). This metric and service show how quickly the server starts responding from 22 global locations, both Before and After the migration.
Compared with my previous web hosting, the Server Location did not change significantly in terms of global geography. However, moving to 2 dedicated CPU cores and 2 GB of RAM improved TTFB by approximately 1.5x to 4.5x, depending on the location.
Configuration:
- Apache (before: nginx was a separate layer for static content),
- WordPress + WP Super Cache,
- No CDN,
- Dedicated IP (before: Shared IP with many 3rd-party websites), which can help maintain a better IP Reputation and Email Deliverability.
